The Seamaster Diver 300M is the most complete dive watch you can buy at this price. A METAS-certified Master Chronometer movement, a ceramic bezel, and real 300m water resistance, from a brand with seventy-plus years of dive-watch history.
The History
Omega introduced the Seamaster name in 1948, and the Diver 300M arrived in 1993 as the brand's professional dive watch. Its profile rose quickly after it appeared on James Bond's wrist in 1995. The current generation, ref. 210.30.42.20.01.001, launched in 2018 with a ceramic bezel, a laser-engraved ceramic wave dial, and the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Cal. 8800, certified by METAS for accuracy and resistance to magnetism.
Why Buyers Want It
It delivers specs that compete with watches costing two or three times as much. The Master Chronometer movement, 55-hour power reserve, and helium escape valve make it a genuine tool watch, while the wave dial and polished case keep it dressy enough to wear anywhere. Pre-owned examples trade well below retail, which makes it one of the best values in modern Swiss sport watches.
What to Look For When Buying Pre-Owned
The 300M is widely produced, so condition and completeness drive price. Here is what matters.
- METAS card and warranty card, both should match the serial number on the caseback and paperwork.
- Wave dial engraving, the laser-cut waves should be crisp and even under magnification. Soft or uneven waves are a red flag.
- Helium escape valve, check the 10 o'clock crown screws down cleanly and the threads aren't damaged.
- Bezel action, the ceramic bezel should click firmly through all 120 positions with no play or chips.
- Bracelet and clasp, look for stretch between links and confirm the diver extension works.
